Help with Vista Guide Error 24

I'm getting a Guide Error: 24 in Vista Media Center and no EPG has been loaded for the last week. I've checked that the binary guide file is being updated by MegaEPG and that the mepgvs service is running. I cannot however open the http://localhost:19679 web page. Any idea what the problem could be?

I've had this problem before and uninstalled and reinstalled MegeEPG to try to fix it without success. It fixed itself after a couple of weeks last time (no idea why) so maybe I just have to be patient!

Any hints appreciated.

Did you read the Vista

Did you read the Vista troubleshooting and checked all the bullets?

No web page

Yes I have. I thing the critical point here is that i can't see the http://localhost:19679 page. Without it, Vista cant pick up any EPG info right ?

Yes, you are right. But the

Yes, you are right. But the question is what causes it (that you can't see the http://localhost:19679). Is mepgvs service running? Do you have firewall? Can you 'ping localhost' at all?

Solved

I got it working again. All I had to do was to delete the content of the:
c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\MegaEPG\cache
folder.

Downloaded new EPG data with MegaEPG and then did a manually fetching of EPG data in MCE. Worked like a charm.
I think I will add a weekly or twice a week deletion of the Cache folder content. I get this error quite often, maby a fresh cache twice a week will do the trick.

More on this error...

I still get this error message. This time, deleteing the cache, didn't help. Tried to reinstall several times, no luck. Upgraded to the latest version, 1.3.1. Same problem. The http://localhost:19679 doesn't work.

Scanning trough the log, I discovered that one of the channels didn't contain any data and was marked as error. This was a reserve sport channel that doesn't always have broadcastings. Removed this channel from Mega EPG. Deleted cache and reloaded channels.
Now the VMCE epg worked like a charm, again, for now ;-) The http://localhost:19679 does still not work ???

This is great that you've

This is great that you've catched the root cause! I will fix the case with "empty channel". http://localhost:19679 shouldn't work directly, there is a special communication protocol with the mediacenter. You can use http://localhost:1969/version or http://localhost:19679/log to see if the service is working. I'll correct the Vista troubleshooting that refers to the matter.

I have also this problem

I have also this problem right now, but it will probably solve itself during the day.
Happens from time to time, but I have not been able to pinpoint it. I think this is the 3rd time it happens since 1.2.6 came out.
I did send Igor a zip file of all the logs a few months back.
Any more hints on retrieving debug data? Tomorrow the fault is, hopefully, gone.

31/1 11:30 still not working
SIB which channel did you remove?
Did you have to assigned guide listing to channels again after removing it.
1/2 14:00 back on line :-). A shock to realize how dependent one has become of Guide data ....
I still don't know the root cause of this problem.
13/2 - here we go again. Error 24 Could I send you some logs for you to analyze Igor?

What an annoying problem. I

What an annoying problem. I hate those ones that are very hard to pinpoint :). I'll be back from my business trip soon and we'll see what we can do.

Further info on this problem, for bugfixing

After working fine for quite some time now, I got the 24 error again. Deleted cache, restarted MegaEPG service and checked logs.
I can display the http://localhost:1969/version and http://localhost:19679/log pages.
IE has to be set to Intranet settings and not Internet (some security settings) or else the version page wont show.
I don't get any errors in my log, but I do get some number of simultaneous programs which will be deleted and some large gaps. And I get this error in event viewer:

Eventinfo: Unexpected error during load: System.FormatException: Bad file format. Cant find section ved Microsoft.Ehome.Epg.Helper.XmlHelper.ReadToSection(XmlReader Reader, String SectionName) ved Microsoft.Ehome.Epg.Loader.Xml.GuideXmlLoader.Run(Object[] arrArgs) ved Microsoft.Ehome.Epg.Loader.GuideLoadManager.LoadImp() Prosess: DefaultDomain Objektnavn: Media Center Guide

It was OK again 1 day after

It was OK again 1 day after all data was exhausted.
I'm still at 1.2.6 though. (On Vista)
Could 1.3.1 fix this issue?
Anyone ever able to get more than 7 days of data from dagenstv.no?

Igor, there is still an issue with the names of the shows.
I remember you peeled away episode info in order to get Series to work.
Now the re-run info is peeled away as well, resulting in duplicate recordings, but 2 are better than none :-)
A nice to have would be to have the peeled off name contents moved to the info part, because now it is not possible to see what episode a recording is (like 2 of 24).

Well, I still find MegaEPG a lifesaver for VMC. Thank you!
Will you continue support for W7MC/TVP2008 ?

Cheers.

Regarding the Error 24. Can

Regarding the Error 24. Can you please run the MegaEPG with the command line key --utest-save from now on? The key creates a zip file in the html directory which contains all the downloaded html data. Ignore this file if everything works fine. But at the moment the Error 24 happened again, please send me the zip file so I'll debug the data and hopefully catch it finally.

Yes, I plan to support Windows 7. Don't know about the TV Pack cause it is a weird intermediate solution.

Sure, I've added the option

Sure, I've added the option to my Task-Scheduler command.
I might not notice the error until I get a low guide warning though, but I will tell you how many days left of data VMC think that it has when it happens again.

Cheers
