Today, after MegaEPG finished it's job I went to "pull" the EPG to MCE 2005. To my amazement, MCE gave me an error code 33 and then, after retrying I received the following error - "Unknown discovery service error. Code: 14".
When digging up forums I narrowed the problem to two plausible reasons - incorrect date/time settings and non-working administrative shares.
My time is set correctly, although I did see that Windows doesn't update my time and I have a few errors from W32Time service in the system event log. I'll fix this later on.
I discovered that the administrative shares do not work anymore, even though they are still listed when I run 'net share' on the command prompt!
I learnt that MegaEPG stores the EPG data on \Windows\eHome\MegaEPG\data, the Admin$ share is required to access the \Windows folder.
Things seemed desperate. I couldn't think of any reason why this had happened... But then... I remembered that Kaspersky Internet Security installed an update yesterday that required a reboot. This update was somehow blocking the administrative shares!
It was obvious that KIS is the culprit as things were normal when I temporarily disabled KIS protection.
To solve the problem, I changed both UDP and TCP entries named 'Windows "Server Message Block" Activity' under Main Screen > Firewall > Settings > 'Rules for packet filtering' tab from Block to Allow.
EPG is now working again. :)
Great! I'll add this to
Great! I'll add this to possible workardouns.
